AccessCNY Employee Honored for Service to Seniors
Dianne Weiermann, Program Director of Outreach Services for AccessCNY, has received the Senior Services Honoree of the Year award from the Onondaga County Department of Adult and Long Term Care Services Office for Aging. Weiermann was cited for her dedicated and tireless work on behalf of seniors in Central New York. Diane has worked for AccessCNY for 30 years. In that time, her work has touched the lives of hundreds of seniors. Outreach programs can help anyone of any age who needs assistance with a one time or ongoing need due to illness, including the process of aging.
“Many seniors want to remain in their homes, even as their lives change and they find it harder to be independent,” Diane explained. “I want to do what I can to help people live how they want to, whatever that means for them.” Diane’s commitment to seniors goes above and beyond as she helps aging adults get needed home repairs, environmental modifications, legal representation, and often accompanies seniors to medical appointments.
“What truly makes Diane and her work special is the way she approaches those she serves,” said Mary DiBiase, AccessCNY’s Associate Executive Director for Services for those with a Developmental Disability or Acquired Brain Injury. “She has an infectious laugh, a bright personality, and is always ready to listen with an empathetic ear. Putting that empathy into action is her strong suit. Diane becomes more than just an employee connecting seniors to needed resources; she becomes an advocate, working tirelessly to ensure that anyone who comes to her is connected to the resources and staff they need. We are thrilled for Diane to be bestowed with this honor. ”
Weiermann was honored at an event on Thursday, May 19 along with Esteemed Elder of the Year Vin Dang of Syracuse and the late Bob “Barker” Luongo, who was posthumously honored as the Senior Citizen of the Year.
