AccessCNY’s Community Habilitation services help adults with developmental disabilities develop the skills they need to live, work and play independently in our community.
Working one-on-one with a staff member known as a Direct Support Professional (DSP), individuals enrolled in Community Habilitation choose community (or home) based activities that are both fun and can help them build skills or meet personal goals.
Some commonly chosen goals for Community Habilitation participants are:
- Improving decision making and safety skills
- Increasing independent living skills like shopping, banking and cooking
- Building and maintaining healthy friendships and community connections
Interested participants also have the option of participating in group activities such as bowling and fishing outings.
