Since 1986 AccessCNY’s Supported Employment programs have been helping individuals with a developmental disability and/or a mental health diagnosis find and succeed in jobs they enjoy. Each job seeker in the program is paired with an employment consultant who will be an ally and resource during the job search and first weeks of employment.
While looking for a job, our employment consultants can help with:
- Finding positions that are interesting and appropriate based on experience
- Resume development
- Interviewing skills, particularly how to answer difficult questions about potential employment barriers
Once a participant has been placed in a job, the employment consultant can provide training to both the employer and employee. Often consultants will accompany people to their position and provide one-on-one support until the job duties and environment are more familiar, but off-site job coaching is available as well.
Benefits for Employers:
Our staff firmly believe that increasing employment opportunities for historically excluded populations not only benefits the individual worker, but the employers as well. We are proud to have worked with hundreds of local partners to create fulfilling and meaningful matches; both Wegman’s and Marshalls have been valued partners of our employment program for many years.
