Mental health outreach provides education around mental health diagnosis, symptoms, treatment and support to anyone seeking to understand and support people experiencing mental illness. Through consultation with AccessCNY staff, trainings are individually tailored to meet the needs and time limitations of each group.
Current Training Offerings
- Mental Health 101: An entry-level course covering the definition of mental illness, US statistics, symptoms and treatment of common mental illness, an overview of trauma and local resources. Full curriculum – 3.5 hours, can be modified to 90 minutes.
- De-Escalation Skills: A deep dive into emotional regulation during a crisis with strategies for supporting a loved one in crisis and skills for intervention. 2-3 hours depending on group size.
- Where Do I Start?: a 60-90 minute presentation including tips for identifying mental illness or distress in a loved one and how to start a potentially difficult conversation.
All offerings can be modified to meet the goals of those requesting the training, and new trainings can be developed based on site requests.
All trainings are provided free to community groups.
